Tribute to Tina and Tamara
Sadly, our two wonderful pigs Tina and Tamara – two of the farm’s shining stars of over a decade in residence – passed away in recent years.
Thanks to everyone's fundraising and voting in the Tesco Bags of Help grant scheme we now have the funds to renovate our pig pens so we're starting on the improvements this spring and hope to have some piglets later this year. We'll keep you up to date with progress through the year.
Read Tina’s obituary in the Islington Tribune here :
Olivia and Matilda are our two beautiful Dexter cows. Dexters originate from Ireland. They are the smallest cow breed in the world. In previous centuries, Dexters were a useful dual-purpose breed; dairy as well as beef. Today, the larger cow breeds are generally regarded as being more efficient to raise than the small Dexters.
Fortunately, small holders keep these friendly and pretty cows. Dexters come in three different colours. Black is the most common, then red, and dun being the rarest. The Dexter herd has never been infected with Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, commonly known as mad cow disease.
TESTIMONIALS
“I am delighted to support the Freightliners Farm fun run, which will raise funds for the farm at the same time as reminding us of the rich history of our Borough The farm is a fantastic hub of our community that brings together people from all backgrounds, young and old, to learn about and value a range of domesticated animals”
Jeremy Corbyn MP, Islington North
“This fun run sounds great. It gives everybody a chance to get involved and I like the way in which it draws on Islington's historic role in providing livestock”
Emily Thornberry MP, Islington South & Finsbury
